As 23 comes down to a sudden stop, I have decided to take the opportunity and share 24 random facts/ideas/theories I have on life. Best of luck keeping up with it.
1. Pronunciation can quickly change your name from Cristi to Crispy. Sadly, this is not the first time I have not said my own name correctly. Year 24, I have high hopes for you.
2. I refer to my kitten as my Child...I forget it isn't correctly identifying my life status when I tell a guy I have to go "Take care of my child." But hey, keeps the posers away.
3. I believe every first date should be at 6am with no food and wearing sweat pants. If you can't handle me hangry, cranky from lack of sleep or looking "put together"...it won't last long.
4. House shoes complete every outfit. Every. Outfit.
5. Movies are too long and should never be watched in a house. Actually, TV Shows are too. Basically, if you watch any kind of TV inside, it has an unspoken agreement that falling asleep during its duration is ACCEPTABLE.
6.The words "penguin", "legs", "crayon" and all words spoken while in Northern Georgia are warranted to be pronounced incorrectly.
7. Hooked on Phonics. If you sound out the words, why is "Phonics" spelled with a "Ph" instead of an "F."
8. You think your life sucks...Imagine being James. He was the brother of the One True King. Literally, nothing you could do would ever amount to that. Poor guy.
9. Did Jesus ever have a crush on anyone? Or did anyone ever have a crush on him? What would he say? Like if Mary Magdoline told Jesus she was in love with him...or any other girl. I'm just saying, 33 years on this earth and NO GIRL told him she was in love with him or followed him because they had a crush on him? ((Bible studies are fun with me...))
10. The world map is made up of a kitten playing with yarn, a chef in America, Italy as a shoe and Europe as a dog.
11. If you go to the movies, ALWAYS bring a bag big enough to sneak in chinese food and pickles.
12. Every conversation turns awkward if you don't have something to do with your hands.
13. Georgia banning hedgehogs is a sin.
14. I have spent longer as a Graduate from college than I did in college...time flies way too fast.
15. With my dating history, arranged marriages aren't sounding half bad.
16. Shalienne Woodley is my celebrity twin. I'm working on our "prince and the popper; a true life tale" script.
17. Cats can sense the intentions of human beings. Especially mine. And she is ALWAYS right in her readings of them. Trust her.
18. Loving the wrong person hurts. Make sure you find the right one so you never have to feel the pain of loving the wrong one.
19. All jokes should be dad jokes. No exceptions.
20. Every profound discovery happens while driving on backroads.
21. Almond milk tops make for the best cat toys.
22. Tea cup pigs are acceptable animals and are encouraged. So are puppies and horses.
23. Climbing with headphones in makes you seem unapproachable...use that information as you desire.
24...ONE TO GROW ON...8 foot kayaks do fit inside Kia Souls. It has been tested. Just don't drive too fast on the highways.
I'm not exactly sure how I stumbled on to 24 years already. Of course it was more of a giddy skip to 21, a trip and face slide through 22-23 and a regretful dusting off of the jersey to hopefully start 24 back on the right foot. This is the first year in my life that I have not wanted to relive, so I believe I am officially an adult. I have lived long enough to understand mistakes, feel regret and learn how to fight your way through to a new finish.
Even though 23 has had some low valleys and a few storms that are still sending after shocks, the blessings are still undeniable. From Family to Friends and a new love of my industry, climbing, acro yoga and purchasing of a Harley, I can say it has been unpredictably beautiful.
More beautiful than anything, I have found grace to forgive. I'm still working on it and some situations are harder than others, but the grace to be able to forgive has been a welcomed and desired peace in my life.
As best as I can say it, 23 was (still is) tough and 24 is a very welcomed change. A year to dive deeper into who I am as a person, what I will allow to define me and a resetting of the bar back to its original high standard. Rebuilding is never easy but the laughter that goes along with it makes the journey worth taking.
Luckily, I have an amazing family, gracious friends and a place I can invest into...all of which challenges me daily to be the best I can be and to at least have one laughing fit a day. Qualifications I can gratefully get behind.
Here's to 24. May it be better than 23 and hard for 25 to top.
2nd Peter 3:18
